Brazil beat Italy 3-0

South American champions Brazil denied Italy's chance to march into the semi-final of the FIFA Confederations Cup on Sunday by thumping the World Cup winners 3-0 in their final group match.

In the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, Brazil repeated their habit of beating Italy just as before when Selecao Brasileira (Brazilian Selection) won their two FIFA World Cup final fuels in 1970 and 1994.

Compared with the Azzurri whose defense seemed porous from the outset, Brazil produced a stunning display of their prowess by enjoying better possession of the ball in the first half.

Their blitz of less than 10 minutes was spurred by Luis Fabiano in the 37th minute. The Sevilla striker intercepted a low shot from Maicon on the left and slided the ball into the bottom corner.

Fabiano's second chance came six minutes later.

He slot the ball home at the far post after an excellent build-up from Robinho and Kaka.

The third goal was a mistake by Italian defender Andrea Dossena who put the ball past his own goalkeeper when trying to cut out a cross.

The three scores put Brazil in a firm control of the match before the interval, and enabled Italy to walk on a tightrope to go back home.

Althouth the Azzurri recovered a little in the second half, their efforts to score were all foiled by the saves of Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar in time.

Before the fuel with Brazil, Italy had three points, the same as Egypt who had a match against the United States on Sunday in Rustenburg.

The Azzurri's hope to sail into the next stage became slimmer after their 1-0 defeat by African champions Egypt in the South African economic hub of Johannesburg on Thursday.

It was also a new record in African football history as Italy had never lost to an African team, despite more than a dozen of attempts from the football cradle continent.

Brazil will face the challenge of hosts South Africa in Johannesburg on Thursday in the semi-final of the intercontinental tournament.

AC Milan-Chelsea FC Soccer Ticket Sales Surpass 60,000 In Baltimore

Visiting European teams are driving a surge of interest in Maryland.

The Baltimore Ravens have sold more than 60,000 tickets to the AC Milan vs. Chelsea Football Club soccer match that will be held at M&T Bank Stadium on July 24.

The match in Baltimore is part of the World Football Challenge, a six-city round-robin tournament being played in the United States this summer, when both European clubs are preparing for their new season.

As the first soccer event to ever be hosted at M&T Bank Stadium, Ravens officials have been encouraged by the strong fan interest.

“We could not be more pleased with the reaction our community has had to bringing an international soccer match to Baltimore,” said Ravens vice president of ticket sales and operations Baker Koppelman. “Reaching 60,000 tickets sold is a significant milestone, but we have more work to do. To reach a sellout would be a tremendous statement for Baltimore and put us in a strong position to host future high-profile events.”

Capacity at the stadium is 70,000.

Washington DC, the Virginia area near Maryland that is the home of Major League Soccer's DC United, has long been a hotbed of soccer support, and the club's own Santino Quaranta hails from Baltimore.

Kaka wins it for Brazil

Kaka converted a penalty kick in stoppage time to give Brazil a 4-3 win over Egypt in Group B play at the Confederations Cup on Monday.

The game was tied at 3-3 in the 89th minute when a volley from Lucio was kept out by the arm of Egypt's Ahmed Al Muhamadi, who was sent off for handling it on his own goal line.

Kaka then stepped up and converted the spot kick to give his team the win, thwarting a spirited effort from the Egyptians.

Kaka put Brazil ahead in the first five minutes, but Egypt came right back to level the match through Mohamed Zidan. Luis Fabiano then restored Brazil's lead in the 12th minute before Juan made it 3-1 at halftime.

Egypt fought back bravely in the second half with goals from Mohamed Shawky and another from Zidan just two minutes apart, but the late goal prevents the team from taking anything from the match.

The contest got off to a flying start as the two sides combined to score three goals in the opening 12 minutes.

Brazil struck first in the fifth minute with a nice individual effort from Kaka, who took the ball down inside the area and danced around two defenders before beating goalkeeper Essam El Hadary.

It took just four minutes for Egypt to respond as Shawky's cross from the right wing found an open Zidan at the back post and he headed home from six yards.

However, Brazil went right back on the attack and scored on a brilliant header from Fabiano. Elano drove a free kick straight into the box from midfield, and Fabiano got enough of his head on the ball to redirect it into the bottom left corner from the middle of the box.

The South American side could have added to the lead in the 24th minute when Juan sent a free header over the net from eight yards, while a well-struck free kick from Dani Alves forced El Hadary to tip the ball over the crossbar.

A third goal did arrive before the break from the ensuing corner kick, however, as Elano's cross found the head of Juan at the top of the six-yard box and he turned the ball past the keeper.

Brazil looked to be in control, but the African champions responded with two goals in two minutes shortly after the break.

The first goal arrived in the 53rd minute when Shawky took a pass from Ahmed Fathi and fired a shot into the bottom left corner from 20 yards, while just one minute later, a good through ball from Ahmed Eid allowed Zidan to get in on goal and slot his shot past goalkeeper Julio Cesar.

Kaka sent a volley close in the 77th minute in an effort to break the tie, while Fathi ripped a shot over the goal from 25 yards before the dramatic ending.

Milan cut short Cissokho's Porto stay

AC Milan will make Aly Cissokho their first acquisition of the summer transfer window having agreed a deal with FC Porto for the left-back's services.

Sudden rise

The 21-year-old French defender will move to Milan, with a reported €15m travelling in the opposite direction to the Portuguese champions, who only signed Cissokho in January this year. Until last summer, Cissokho was playing for FC Gueugnon in France's second division, making a total of 22 league appearances for his first club. Vitória FC brought him to Portugal ahead of the 2008/09 campaign, yet he stayed just half a season in Setubal before Porto swooped to take him to the Estádio do Dragão. He went on to play 15 Liga games as well as four matches in the UEFA Champions League – catching the eye in Porto's quarter-final defeat by Manchester United FC. He is expected to put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Rossoneri, after which he can look forward to returning to Europe's élite club competition in the group stage next term.

Kaká ready for Madrid challenge

Real Madrid CF have signed Brazilian international Kaká from AC Milan in a reported €68m deal.

Six-year contract

The 27-year-old has agreed a contract running until 2015 with his arrival following the appointment of former Villarreal CF coach Manuel Pellegrini by returning Madrid president Florentino Pérez on 1 June. Kaká, who joined Milan from São Paulo FC in 2003 and went on to score 95 goals in 270 competitive appearances, said he was leaving the Rossoneri on good terms: "I'd like to offer my thanks to Milan because they were the club who launched me on to the international stage. They gave me the opportunity to become one of the big players in Europe. I'm leaving by the front door."

'New motivation'

A 2002 FIFA World Cup winner with Brazil, for whom he has been capped 64 times, Kaká passed a medical earlier on Monday in Recife where the national team are preparing for a home World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on Wednesday. "I've won everything that I wanted as a player and this is a new motivation for me," he said. "The president at Real Madrid is preparing a very competitive team which will be looking to try to become champions of Spain and Europe once again; that's why I chose them."

Final in Madrid

The Santiago Bernabéu faithful will now be hoping the attacking midfield player can help the club wrest the Liga title back from FC Barcelona while also challenging for a tenth European Champion Clubs' Cup – especially with the 2009/10 final to be played in the Spanish capital. A Scudetto winner in 2004, Kaká won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in 2007 while also being named UEFA Club Footballer of the Year and FIFA World Player of the Year.

Group stage

The reported fee of €68m would make Kaká's move the second biggest transfer ever with Zinédine Zidane's €73m switch from Juventus to Madrid in 2001 still holding the all-time record. Both Madrid and Milan will begin the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League in the group stage.

Beckham Wants Milan Return Despite Ancelotti Departure

'Golden Balls' has stressed that he still envisages a return to the fashion capital in the near future.

David Beckham recently returned to the United States of America, to rejoin his MLS outfit Los Angeles Galaxy following a six-month loan period at Milan in Italy.

The Englishman enjoyed his time so much with the Rossoneri that soon after returning back to the US, he declared that he was keen to rejoin the Milanese outfit as soon as possible.

One of the main reasons behind his initial move to San Siro was coach Carlo Ancelotti, who was recently named manager of Chelsea. Despite this, ‘Becks’ has stated that Ancelotti’s switch has not affected his desire to return to the Serie A.

“Milan are certainly a club that are extremely interested in me, so I would love to go back,” Beckham stressed in an interview with the Sunday Mirror.

“There is nothing set in stone yet, but I will start thinking about it later in the year.

“As for Ancelotti, he was truly one of the main reasons why I joined Milan in the first place; however, I want to return to the club even though he is no longer there.

“I wish him all the very best for his time at Chelsea.”
